One of the most identified psychoactive substance is a plant with. This psychoactive plant contains the. This is the one responsible for the “high” feeling when taking marijuana. The flower of the plant contains the higher levels of THC.

This substance is commonly smoked in a pipe. It could also be smoked in blunts, which are cigars that have been emptied of tobacco leaf used to wrap the cigar. With this, marijuana’s active ingredients combine with nicotine and other harmful chemicals. The marijuana plant can also be brewed as a tea. When marijuana is smoked, it goes fast into the blood all the way through the lungs and then to the brain. The “high” sense is felt within a few minutes and could last up to five hours. When marijuana is eaten, it is absorbed gradually for the reason that it has to the pass the stomach and intestine for absorption. The changing feeling could take up an hour but would last longer, for about twelve hours.

How does THC works in the brain? It actually attaches on a specific site in the brain known as the cannabinoid receptor which influences the activities of the nerve cells. Some brain areas have numerous cannabinoid receptors; others have a small number of or none. Many cannabinoid receptors are located in the parts of the brain that control pleasure, recollection, contemplation, attention, sensory and time perception, and coordinated movement. Cannabinoid receptors are mostly concentrated in the hypothalamus, amygdale, spinal cord, brain stem, central gray, and nucleus of the solitary tract. These areas in the brain are most likely affected with THC, thus will cause a dysfunction in behaviors related to these areas. THC stimulates the reward system of the brain which causes the release of dopamine, which in turn is responsible for the “high” feeling.

The continued use of marijuana makes the body to become dependent of the substance. Just like any other abused substances, marijuana could cause withdrawal symptoms when usage is terminated. When the body tolerates the substance, higher doses is required, and in turn, causing more damage in the person’s life. The person wouldn’t stop taking in the drug in order to avoid withdrawal symptoms. This behavior, then, translates to marijuana dependence. Marijuana is considered to be both mentally and emotionally addictive. Users believe that they need to take marijuana to live normally and to have fun.

Marijuana could change anyone for the duration of the use. It can affect one’s state socially, emotionally, physically, and even psychologically. One would lack the interest in doing any mundane activities. The abuser would then keep away from their friends who do not use marijuana and settle to those who use the substance. It is rooted in their minds that they could not do things without being stoned of smoking marijuana first. They believe that smoking marijuana could explain all their problems. Furthermore, as indicated by how the brain is affected with marijuana, memory and cognition is very much affected. Studies have shown that intense users have difficulty sustaining attention, changing attention to meet the demands of the changes in the environment, and in registering, processing, and using information. It has been suggested that the bigger destruction among heavy users is likely due to an alteration of brain activity produced by marijuana. Furthermore, smoking marijuana could lead to abnormal functioning of lung tissue and other respiratory problems.

Marijuana can either be addictive or not. For people with addictive tendency, then yes, marijuana could be addictive. However, there are people who squabble that they can take or leave it and have quit for a long period of time. Well, probably, in their case, the answer is thumbs down.

Marijuana can be beneficial but once abused can give off more harm than good which translates one to call for help.

Mood disorders are mental disorders characterized by disturbance in one’s mood. The mood disturbance can be severe and can include depression, mania, or hypomania, or any combination of these.

There is a certain type of mood disorder called bipolar disorder. It involves swings in mood from elation to depression without identifiable external cause. A person having bipolar disorder experiences swings from depression to mania. During the manic phase of this disorder, the patient may show unnecessary, unwarranted silliness. They may also show poor judgment and recklessness and may be argumentative. A manic person may speak rapidly, have unrealistic ideas, and jump from subject to subject. They possibly cannot sit still for very long. These symptoms are predominant for a specific period of time lasting for a few days . Hospitalization can often be necessary to keep the person from harming themselves and others. Bipolar disorder has another side, the depressive episode. Bipolar depressed patients often sleep more than usual and are exhausted. This contrasts with those with major depression, who usually has trouble sleeping and is agitated. Irritability and withdrawal symptoms can be seen during bipolar depressive episodes.

What causes mood disorders is not well known. There are chemicals in the brain, called endorphins, that are responsible for positive moods. Other chemicals in the brain, called neurotransmitters, regulate endorphins. Studies show that mood disorders are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Unwanted incidents in life can also add to a depressed mood. On the other hand, genetic factors could be a prospect in causing bipolar disorder. Since it is related to depression, a gene may be responsible for the occurrence of the disorder. And this gene may be triggered by the environment, such as serious life-changing events. Evidence suggests that environmental factors play an important role in the development and course of bipolar disorder, and that individual psychosocial variables may interact with genetic dispositions.

Moreover, some limited long-term studies indicate that children who later receive a diagnosis of bipolar disorder may show subtle early traits such as sub-threshold cyclical mood abnormalities, full major depressive episodes, and possibly ADHD with mood fluctuation. There may be hypersensitivity and irritability. There is some disagreement whether the experiences are necessarily fluctuating. An account of stimulant utilize in childhood is found in high numbers of bipolar patients and has been found to cause an earlier onset of bipolar disorder, worse clinical course, independent of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Mood stabilizer medications are usually used to cure bipolar disorder. Psychiatric drugs are sometimes used. Psychotherapy also has a role, often when there has been some recovery of stability. In severe cases in which there is a threat of damage to oneself or others involuntary commitment may be used; these cases generally entail severe manic episodes with depressive episodes with suicidal intention.

Making a diagnosis of bipolar disorder is quite a complicated case. The reason is due to the fact that the pattern of highs and lows varies in every patient. For some people, mania or depression can last for weeks or months, even for years. For other people, bipolar disorder takes the form of frequent and dramatic mood shifts.

According to a clinical psychiatrist named Michael Aronson, MD, there are discoveries in bipolar disorder that shows that there is a wide range of symptoms and mood changes in this disorder. It’s not always dramatic mood swings. In fact, some people seem to get along just fine. There is productivity even in manic periods. They think things are going great. The danger comes when the mania grows really worse. Changes can be very dramatic, with catastrophic results. People can get involved in reckless behavior, spend a lot of money, there may be sexual promiscuity, sexual risks. The depressed phases can be equally dangerous: Frequent thoughts of suicide can really harm.

Addiction, as usually defined, is a physical dependence on a substance, in the case of drug addiction. Once an individual gets dependent on a substance, he or she is not able to function well and may feel physical pains when he or she doesn’t take in the drug. The reason is that the drug has already affected the chemical balance in the brain allowing the person’s system to crave for the certain drug in order to achieve sense of balance. This gets worse when the body starts to tolerate the substance that enters the system, thus, resulting to a higher quantity requirement the next time the drug is taken to reach the desired effect.

By its very description, addiction is the condition of being enslaved to a habit , such narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes distress. This trauma can range in intensity from intense cravings to life threatening illness (depending on the drug), making it virtually impossible for an addict to stop without assistance. Because mainly withdrawal symptoms can be relieved immediately upon consumption of the drug that the body is withdrawing from, the want to use that drug is very high during this time, often resulting in defeat of the healing before it can even begin.

To treat addiction, it always starts with the recognition of it. The treatment process can then be carried on. Healing substance dependence means eliminating the dependency on the drug. This would signify that the person had to stop taking the drug. However, inhibiting the body of an addict from taking in the drug would lead to withdrawal symptoms. It is never easy to deal with these symptoms. However, symptoms will always depend on the type of substance being used. Detoxification should be done to stop pains of withdrawal symptoms.

The process of detoxification is the cleansing of the toxins in our body. In the case of drug addiction, it is the elimination of the drug residues from the body and controlling the symptoms of withdrawal. The detoxification process is only the first step to recovery. Taking away the toxins that have been controlling the body system of the addict should be done first before any behavioral based treatment which would treat the causal factors of addiction.

Drug detoxification is referred to as the period of withdrawal during which the person’s body eventually returns to homeostasis after long-term use of an addictive substance. Depending on the addiction, the process will vary.

Detoxification can be for both inpatient and outpatient basis. Inpatient detoxification will agree to close monitoring on the patient. With these, the contact to the substance of abuse could be avoided. On the other hand, outpatient detoxification allows greater social support. In comparison to inpatients, patients in outpatient theraphy retain greater freedom, continue with their day-to-day activities with fewer disruptions. However, with outpatient treatment, there is an increased risk of relapse since the patient is more likely to be exposed with the substance of abuse.

This drug detoxification process seeks to decrease the severity of the trauma associated with the body’s withdrawal from dependence on a particular drug by medically alleviating and monitoring the intense physical symptoms associated with systematically inducing the withdrawal process. When the drug is cleared from the system and the pain and discomfort associated with ending its use have been alleviated, the other reasons contributing to the addiction, such as the emotional and psychological issues, can be taken cared of.

Substance dependence is always a serious problem for everybody. This problem requires serious treatment that requires self-determination, and self-will to be able to overcome the first phase of recovery. The curing process is to be deal very hard everyday.

Drug abuse, also known as substance abuse, involves the repeated and excessive use of chemical substances to achieve a certain effect. These chemical matters may be “street” drugs, unlawful due to their great probability for dependence and abuse. They can also substances acquired with a prescription, used for pleasure rather than for medical reasons.

The consequence would always be the deterioration of one’s life and body. A person with drug abuse trouble may find it hard to acknowledge the situation. The individual has the tendency to conceal any manifestations of the problem, thus showing the people around that nothing is wrong. Furthermore, loved ones may not also recognize that the the one they love has a drug abuse problem. As a result, the strong dissent and rationalization of the person using drugs makes it very hard to get help, and can make concerned family members feel like they are the problem.

The breaking of the problem of admitting that one is abusing drug is always the big leap to recovery. However, in trying to recover from the problem, one should try to find help from others, particularly experts in the field of substance abuse treatment and the right social support. Without the right support, it is very painless to rationalize just one more pill, and withdrawal symptoms can test the strongest resolve. Thus, peer support, matched with therapy and medication could aid a person who has fallen into the dark side of substance abuse.

There is also a requirement for drug detoxification during the treatment. A person may still require drug detox services if they are abusing drugs and not yet at the point of being drug addicted. In an emotional point of view, there are mild withdrawal symptoms. Detoxification could still help for the reason that it frees the body from the venoms brought by the drug. Moreover, there is a program called the Intensive Outpatient wherein the person in need of help for drug abuse has a stable home environment, good support system and is motivated and willing to give up drugs and/or alcohol. They are generally in early to middle stage drug abuse. If relapse occurs while in intensive outpatient therapy, residential treatment would be suggested. A therapist is also accessible for an individual therapy with the patient.

There are many treatment programs offered by rehabilitation centers for substance abuse problems. Substance abuse is very likely to become substance addiction if interference does not take place. Though prevention is still better than cure, substance abuse is a little bit better than addiction. Abusing the use of a drug is still a hopeful case and easier to deal with both by the patient and the therapists, as compared to substance addiction.

So, when a loved one or a family member is likely to be a victim of drug abuse, as early as possible do not hesitate to seek help and face the problem. Usually, in the case of teenagers, parents fail to recognize if their children are guilty of drug abuse since changes in behavior seemed to be normal among teenagers in their generation today. Despite of this situation, parents should always be keen enough to become aware of some changes that might be linked to drug abuse.

However, you cannot expect your loved one to recover right away. It is not as easy as treating a person with cough. Recovery will always be an ongoing process. We need to know that these people will need all the support they can get most especially from their loved ones. Once sober, an individual who is drug dependent will not quickly be cured. Drug use may have been masking sore feelings that will bubble up to the surface. Many in recovery experience depressed moods for up to a year or more as their brain reestablishes from the drug abuse. Learning new coping skills to defy cravings, and how to relate them in stressful situations, is an ongoing process. Ongoing support is central to work through those issues.

People who are into drug abuse should not be feared. Rather, they should be helped and supported in order for the to become well again.

Crystal meth is recently considered as the most threatening and dangerous drug in America, and probably in other areas of the world. It is a stimulant that for the most part hits the central nervous system. This drug is extremely addictive. Meth has its profits such as giving the person the ample energy to do anything for the whole day. Moreover, people who wished to drop weight also use meth as a resort to doing so. Meth had been found to reduce one’s weight. Such benefits as these, may have allowed meth to go through into people’s lives and later on slowly destroy every aspect of their lives.

The addict finds it very difficult to quit using meth because of the occurrence of withdrawal symptoms. Both physical and emotional symptoms are hugely apparent with constant use of crystal meth. The effects of meth are primarily connected

to its action as a powerful central nervous system stimulant affecting the body’s mechanisms for regulating heart rate, body temperature, blood pressure, appetite, attention, mood, alertness and alarm responses.

There are many ways in taking in meth. It could be through swallowing, snorting, smoking, and injecting. Methods which boost the brain’s uptake of the substance have been increasing; snorting is faster than swallowing, smoking is faster than snorting, etc. The drug alters the mood in different ways, depending on the route of administration. Immediately after smoking meth intravenously, the user experiences an intense rush that lasts only a few minutes and is described as extremely pleasurable. Swallowing meth resulting in euphoria, described as a high but not a rush. While the effects of smoking and IV injection are very quick, smoking meth produces effects within 3 to 5 minutes and oral injection can take up to 20 minutes to produce a high.

The pleasurable effects of crystal meth disappear even before the blood concentration of the drug falls significantly; in other words, it just stops working. To maintain the high, increasing frequency of use is a requirement. Meth addicts indulge in binge behavior for days at a time; foregoing food, hygiene, sleep and other necessities. In addition, side effect associated with meth overdose include brain damage, meningitis, neurotoxicity, sensations of flesh crawling with bugs, compulsive picking and infecting sores, severe headache, muscle breakdown and kidney failure. There are currently no medications available to treat methamphetamine overdose.

In preventing meth usage, communities have now joined movements to stop this kind of addiction. Family-focused prevention efforts have been discovered to have a huge force than strategies that focus on children only.

Moreover, during treatment, detoxification would entail the removal of toxins caused by the drug from the body. Because of this, withdrawal is also treated by way of providing certain drug that would mimic the effects of meth but not as destructive as meth. Withdrawal from methamphetamine is typically characterized by intense drug cravings, depression, insomnia, and increased appetite.

When carried out on long term, there are several cognitive behavioral intrusions designed to help in modifying the patient’s thinking and behaviors, and to increase coping skills related to various life stressors. The support from family and loved ones is still the most important ingredient in treating meth addicts. With the knowledge that he or she is loved and cared for would encourage him or her to fight for her life despite the discouraging effects of meth. Realizing that you are important in the family ad in the society could inspire you to move on and turn your back from the darkness for good.

Moreover, no matter what kind of treatment the patient gets, the key is the determination and will to change and do away with crystal meth. Cognitive therapy is greatly helpful in allowing the person realize that life does not revolve around the drug. There is more to life than meth. The person would then be taught coping skills and new perspectives in dealing with temptations and starting a new life as the person recovers form the battle with meth.

When faced with crystal meth addiction, one should not panicked because there are help available. One should just be willing and determined to look for the right treatment.
