One of the most important answers to the solution of drug addiction are the establishment of Drug treatment centers. Addiction treatment centers are facilities planned to aid alcoholics and addicts heal physically, mentally and spiritually, and to discover themselves again in a drug and alcohol-free environment.

All drug and alcohol treatment centers have basically the same goal, namely to help people with drug or alcohol abuse issues to learn how to live a life of abstinence. Yet, each treatment centers are guided with their own unique philosophies in their treatment programs. A treatment center can be described as any type of free-standing facility where therapy and education is administered for a variety of physical or psychological conditions.

Provided that each treatment centers are different, there are different types of drug treatment centers. The Residential treatment centers are there to help the client find out first-hand what it feels like to live a clean and sober lifestyle, while in rehabilitation. Patients are given housing. Housing units part and apart from the actual therapy center and are shuttled back and forth daily. The client is responsible for maintaining the unit and preparing their own meals. There are centers that admits only adolescents while some treat both adults and adolescents. Moreover, wilderness programs are located in remote, isolated regions of the country. They usually cater to adolescent clientele. Hospital-based programs are either situated in close proximity to a hospital or licensed as a psychiatric facility which treats patients with some form of mental illness and or chemical abuse. Furthermore, long term extensive care program are planed for clients who have or are relapse prone. The span of residence is usually about 90 days and as long as 1 year. Some treatment programs specialize in clients who suffer from both chemical dependency and a mood disorder, which is called dual diagnosis. There are treatment centers that only cater to women, and some only cater to men. There are also centers that accommodateto both men and women. Lastly, there are treatment centers offering an alcohol, drug rehab program with a strong emphasis on religion. Most, but not all, are Christian.

Most treatment centers have levels of in terms of treatment when treating an addict patient. Intensive Outpatient is the procedure of attending group and individual counseling sessions at a clinic, several times per week. Outpatient Program, for many, this is the right step towards recovery. Furthermore, fractional hospitalization programs involve attending group and individual counseling sessions at a hospital based program, either all morning or all afternoon, 5 times per week. And some are 9 to 5, Monday through Friday. Partial Hospitalization Programs are most of the time held in hospital based programs, as a step down involving detox and intensive outpatient. It is mostly group therapy. On the other hand, inpatient is the level that gets the most concentration. Most have a detox as a part of their services and others will send someone who requires detox to a facility nearby and then be readmitted. Patients check in for some period of full time, stay there 24 hours a day. Every day consists of group therapy, some individual counseling, lectures, some form of exercise. Like inpatient, residential, long term extended care needs the client to stay there 24 hours a day. There are, however, several key differences. One difference is the length of the drug program. Long term programs usually last 90 days. The other difference is the clinical therapeutic intensity level. Extended care has less individual therapy. And the cost of extended care is also much less than 30 day residential.

All treatment centers are unique. An addict should not be afraid to consider himself to go on a rehabilitation center because he will always find a center that would suit him.
